Welcome to TheREACHInstitute.org, home of The REACH Institute (Resource for Advancing Children’s Health). The goal of the REACH Institute is inherent in its name: to equip every community with the necessary resources to REACH children with emotional and behavioral needs. From psychotherapy training programs to learning about child psychopharmacology, clinicians’ learning about and most importantly, applying recent scientific discoveries in real world health care settings is critical. In current descriptions of mental health interventions, those which have been scientifically tested and proven are commonly called "evidence based," such as "evidence-based treatments" (EBTs), "evidence-based practices" (EBPs), and "evidence based interventions". Training courses and programs in "treatments that work" in children with mental health disorders, using highly effectively hands-on training, adult education methods, and sustained coaching, are exactly what we offer at The REACH Institute.
NOT ONLY CHILD PSYCHOTHERAPY TRAINING COURSES
While training courses in evidence based child psychotherapy treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are essential, psychotherapy is only one of the essential treatment approaches needed by clinicians. Please browse our website for various training opportunities. Here at the REACH Institute we provide psychotherapy and medication training courses to pediatricians, family practitioners, child psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, school personnel and parent advocates. All of our REACH Institute training programs offer the latest, scientifically proven evidence-based treatments for children in our training courses. From our Child and Adolescent Training Institute for Evidence-Based Psychotherapies (CATIE), our Parent Empowerment Program (PEP), our school-based programs, to our Pediatric Pharmacology Program (PPP), training courses offered by The REACH Institute are second to none with regard to quality. All training courses serve to advance the nation's and the REACH Institute’s mission regarding emotional disorders in children - to close the gap between our latest, scientifically proven, evidence-based treatments and current clinical practices.
In addition to our child mental health training courses and programs, here at the REACH Institute we are involved with many partners and working on multiple projects to advance this cause. Take a moment to visit our "Current Projects" link at the very bottom of our web page to see what The REACH Institute is doing in your area. We are happy to bring our continuing education (CE and CME) training courses to your local community.
Also, please note that many of our mental health training program course materials are freely available on the "Resources" link at the bottom of our web page. Look there to find resources for pediatricians, family physicians, advanced practice nurses (such as masters' level nurse practitioners -- APRN, CNS, CNP, etc.), physician assistants, child psychiatrists, adult psychiatrists, pediatric neurologists, developmental behavioral pediatricians, teachers, and other professionals. Materials for parents and advocates are also available there, use our "parent empowerment" and "Parents as Agents of Change" programs. Also note that some materials are available only to persons who are enrolled in REACH Institute training programs. Training materials that are available online for free include rating scales, toolkits, treatment guidelines, published articles and reviews, and summary tables that describe the current scientific state-of-the-art in child psychotherapy methods (CBT, etc.) and pharmacology (safe and effective use of medications in children). We also provide there links to many of the books authored or edited by The REACH Institute founder, Peter S. Jensen M.D., and other REACH staff.
Finally, under the "Resources" tab you can find information about children's mental health, behavioral, and emotional disorders, and descriptions of "treatments that work," i.e., well-established, evidence-based treatment interventions such as CBT, behavior therapy, and pharmacology treatments (stimulant medications, SSRIs, anti-anxiety medications, mood stabilizers (lithium, valproate, etc.) and "atypical" psychiatric medications.
