Emotional and behavioral disorders in children and adolescents can be difficult to treat. Despite many recent advances in child psychotherapies, clinicians dedicated to early treatment of emotional disorders in children – psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, and others who do psychotherapy with children – are often frustrated by how difficult it is to get adequate, hands-on training in the latest mental health therapies -- other than going back to graduate school, which no busy practitioner can do! The REACH Institute was created to accelerate translation of scientific innovations into practical treatments for children. REACH supports the work of an expert cadre of international child mental health researchers and clinicians, the Integrated Psychotherapy Consortium (IPC), to offer Child & Adolescent Training in Evidence-based psychotherapies (CATIE). Each CATIE program covers a common disorder area: - ADHD/Disruptive Disorders
- Depression
- Anxiety
- PTSD
Therapists with substantial experience may be eligible for: - Master Clinician Training. Because many children present with comorbid, complex problems with an array of symptoms, Master Clinician Training provides experienced therapists year-long training in using all the manuals in an integrated fashion with single clients, so your learn draw from all 4 manuals' therapy techniques based on your client's specific needs. Clinicians who satisfactorily complete Master Clinician Training may be eligible to apply for certification as a Clinician Trainer, offering REACH's CATIE programs within your own agency or region.
All CATIE programs use proven, evidence-based treatment methods (cognitive-behavior therapy, behavior therapy, and other forms of treatments). Participants learn to use manuals that include clear, easy-to-follow instructions, strategies for dealing with complex/co-morbid cases, and many family-friendly handouts for parents and youth. All participants receive copies of the therapy manuals, and 3 years' access to updates to the therapy manuals and handouts. This is an excellent opportunity for all child clinicians to upgrade current skills and learn new ones! TRAINING Our training teaches new skills and helps you put them into practice. Through bi-weekly clinical consultation calls with REACH's nationally-known experts, you will put your new intervention skills to work in your own practice, and with your own cases!
