CHILD MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING COURSES
The REACH Institute offers training courses in a variety of areas. One of those areas is child psychotherapy training.
In partnership with leading clinicians and researchers, The REACH Institute created the CATIE program, - Child and Adolescent Training in Evidence-Based Psychotherapies. Within the CATIE program, there are a variety of child psychotherapy training courses that address the range of behavioral and emotional disorders in children, including ADHD and other disruptive disorders, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. These training courses equip clinicians with the latest scientific information and evidence-based treatment techniques effective with children and adolescents. Our psychotherapy training courses teach only evidence-based, well-tested psychotherapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior therapy, trauma-focussed CBT (TF-CBT), and collaborative problem solving therapy.
TRAINING IN BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
The REACH Institute’s cognitive behavioral psychotherapy (for depression, anxiety, and trauma / PTSD) and behavior therapy (for ADHD and conduct problems) training programs for are based on interventions ranging from 8 to 12 sessions. All psychotherapy training programs include the appropriate psychotherapy manuals. However, each psychotherapy session in these manuals is designed to be flexible and easily adapted to your own clinic and your own patients. Sessions emphasize and teach coping strategies, problem solving, family communication, cognitive restructuring, and other key skills. For those wishing to become truly expert, we also offer "Master Clinician" training, enabling learners to become expert in the major forms of therapy for most childhood behavioral and emotional disorders. Master Clinicians may qualify to become trainers in their own right, enabling them to offer REACH psychotherapy training to other therapists in their own clinical treatment settings. Psychotherapy training courses for "master clinicians" allows qualified therapists to learn and master all of the essential psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, behavior therapy, and interpersonal psychotherapy skills. Clinicians who can demonstrate mastery of the essential skills can also become trainers and supervisors, allowing them to train other therapists in their site or location using the REACH training course materials.
TRAINING COURSES IN COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING THERAPY (CPS)
Some children do not respond well to typical behavior therapy procedures, perhaps as many as 20% of those youth with angry, disruptive, aggressive, or explosive behaviors. For these reasons, REACH also offers continuing education training courses in collaborative problem solving (CPS) therapy. To learn more how CPS differs from traditional behavior therapy, see our collaborative problem solving (CPS) link.
OTHER TRAINING COURSES
In addition to psychotherapy, The REACH Institute offers training in primary pediatric pharmacology, parent empowerment, and evidenced-based treatments for healthcare systems serving youth (EASSY). The EASSY program brings many of the current treatment training programs together into a single, integrated approach that allows a give healthcare organization to transform its entire child mental health care system. The REACH Institute is constantly updating its offerings according to the needs of today’s youth. For example, beginning this fall, the REACH Institute will roll out new training programs in scientifically proven methods to help schools, as well as state of the art engagement methods for use in health care settings.
